On behalf of our Clan Chief, Robin Neill Lochnell Malcolm, I would like to welcome you to the Clan MacCallum/Malcolm Society of North America Inc. website. It is with great honor that I have been selected to represent the Clan in North America. My Scottish heritage runs deep within our family and I am very proud to be able to share my heritage and traditions with all visitors to our site.

MINUTES OF THE 2018 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM), GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN HIGHLAND GAMES, JULY 14, 2018
With a quorum present, the meeting was called to order by President Fred McCallum. VP Garnett McCallum and Secretary/Treasurer Neil McCallum were not able to attend the AGM. Piper Robert Reid played “The Rowan Tree” as we gathered under the tent.
Reading of the Previous year (2017) Minutes – As the minutes have been published, a motion was made & seconded to dispense with the reading and accept as written, passed unanimously.
Reports and Statements from Committees were read by Fred:
- Treasurer’s Report (as of 1 July 2018): Cash on hand: $6552..00. This value is typical for the Society over the years. Our largest expenditure is the publishing and distribution of the Argent Castle. Our income and expenses this year are within our budget projections.
Active members: 235. This is an increase over previous years. Many new members have”discovered” us via the webpage!
Annual Dues: $25.00. Remains unchanged from previous years.
PayPal invoicing/payments continues to be very successful. Each month, PayPal invoices are sent out for memberships coming due in the next month. About 75% of our invoices are paid through PayPal.
- Scholarship: Balance on hand: $445.35. In conjunction with Clan Gunn, we awarded 3 Scholarships this summer. CMMS did not contribute to the fund this year as there were not enough applicants to warrant the contribution and the other donations covered the 3 scholarships awarded. This is a very successful program. All contributions are welcome!
- Clan Store (Lands End): 7 Society members have enjoyed quality products from Lands’ End since our last AGM. Land’s End provides wonderful products with our embroidered crest. Our Society does not make any money from the sales.
- Amazon Smile: Amazon Foundation supports charitable organizations. When you order through Amazon “Smile”, contributions are made to our Society. So far this year, $7.92 has been credited to the DNA Project fund ($91.03 balance).
- Family History/Genealogy: Each month we receive 3 to 4 inquiries regarding family ancestry. Most inquiries come through our website. Pete McCollum maintains access to the Database and all inquiries are run through him. Through our project we have obtained 5 new members this year.
- DNA Project: Our Project is through Family Tree DNA (227 total members). We currently have over 152 participating in various DNA projects. The most conclusive ancestry test (Male) is the Y Test, (152 Members). Family Finder tracks both sides of the family (103 total members). When there is a close match, I encourage participants to join our Society.
- Advisory Committee: No report.
Unfinished Business: Fred McCallum stated that there was no unfinished business from the previous AGM.
Officer Election: Fred McCallum made the following statement:
Currently, Garnett McCallum of Summersville, SC is our VP. Normally, the VP is in line to be elected to become the next President of the Society. Unfortunately, Garnett will be unable to serve in this capacity. The demands of his position at the US Department of State on his time are extreme, including quite a bit of travel, and he and his wife are anticipating the birth of their first baby this July! (Isabelle Margaret McCallum was born on July 23). Neil and I spoke with Garnett about this, and he told us that he will not be able to assume the Presidency at this time. We do have a Society member, Maj. Tara McCallum of the US Army JAG Corps, who expressed interest in the VP position. She and her daughter live in the Detroit area. Her father is Robert D. McCallum, Jr, a long time Clan Society member. Both Neil and I talked with her, and she told us she was definitely interested and excited. Garnett said he will support her. The Advisory Committee of our Society unanimously approved Tara for this position. The Clan Society members present at the AGM unanimously elected Fred McCallum, Jr. to continue as President, Neil McCallum to continue as Secretary/Treasurer, and Tara McCallum to be our new Vice President.
New Business: There is a new “Clan Stone Memorial” that has been constructed at the Main Entrance to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Each Clan Society stone has an engraved Crest and Society name on it. So far there are 38 stones in place for the first phase of the project. The second phase will have approximately the same number of stones. The cost for each stone will be about $1,500. Since our Society was formed at Grandfather Mountain in 1971, we voted to have a stone made for our Society to be placed in the Memorial. Our new Society member Beth McCollum Ramsey and her husband of Lewisville, TX offered to pay for our Clan Society stone at the Memorial during this discussion! We would like to thank them for their generous offer! Fred McCallum will follow up on this project with the Grandfather Mountain Games management.
Fred McCallum called for a motion to adjourn the meeting. It was moved, seconded and passed.
