It is my sincere hope that our Society can continue to provide interesting and relevant information regarding our heritage. We hope that you will find this information useful and will decide to join our society and be a part of a great organization.
On behalf of our Clan Chief, Robin Neill Lochnell Malcolm, I would like to welcome you to the Clan MacCallum/Malcolm Society of North America Inc. website. It is with great honor that I have been selected to represent the Clan in North America. My Scottish heritage runs deep within our family and I am very proud to be able to share my heritage and traditions with all visitors to our site.

Distribution of Argent Castle by Email Attachment
As discussed at the recent Annual General Meeting, our plans are to move toward email distribution of the Argent Castle newsletter to clan society members to the extent possible for the Winter 2015 issue. This would be in the form of a PDF attachment to member’s email addresses. The distribution list will be private so that each recipient will only see his/her own email address. The primary driving force for this change is economic: our society spends up to $1,500/year on printing and mailing expenses for the Argent Castle. We should be able to save over $1,000/year by changing to email distribution of the AC. Many other clan societies are already doing this.
The number of pages of the AC has been limited to 8 due to the cost of mailing. By using an electronic option, this limitation will not apply. For our members without an email address or who prefer to continue to receive a paper copy of the Argent Castle we will continue sending them the AC by USPS.
As Secretary/Treasurer of our Society, I maintain the clan society roster, including email addresses. To implement the email distribution of the AC, we will need to verify all email addresses for our membership. Many email addresses have changed over time. We will start this process soon by sending test emails out to all members for whom we have an email address to verify that it is correct and to get each member’s agreement to receive the AC by email attachment. Meanwhile, it will be very helpful if all members would send an email to Fred (firstname.lastname@example.org) verifying their email address. We have over 225 active members now, so this will take a little time!
We are fortunate to have Shirley Carrier as our Editor, she donates her time to prepare, edit, coordinate, and complete the AC 4 times per year! Neil McCallum prepares the mailing labels and sends them to Don Malcolm in Atlanta so he can attach them to the AC and apply postage and send them out to the membership. A special thanks to them for their continued support.

2014 Annual General Meeting (AGM): Following are the minutes of the AGM held at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games on July 12, 2014:
The 2014 Annual General Meeting
Clan MacCallum-Malcolm Society of North America, Inc.
Saturday, July 12, 2014, 2:00 PM
Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, North Carolina
- Call to order by President, James McCallum. 11 members in attendance.
- Moved and seconded to waive reading of the minutes from the 2013 AGM and accept them as posted on the website. Motion carried.
- The Treasurer’s report was read by Fred McCallum.
- Fred McCallum gave the 2014 Piping Scholarship update. We were only able to fund one student this year since the Gibson Fireside bagpipes did not sell at auction yet. Charlie Kehm of Clan Gunn continues to pursue this.
- Unfinished business: It was agreed to move towards electronic publication and email distribution of the Argent Castle newsletter to the extent possible. This would save the Society $1,200/year or more in printing and mailing expenses. Fred will start working on the process of how best to implement this soon.
- It was also decided to update the clan website with Argent Castle newsletters 6 months old and older. Fred will work with Neil McCallum on getting this done.
- There was no officer election at this meeting.
- There was no new business brought before the meeting.
- A motion was made and seconded to adjourn. Unanimously approved.
