Treasurers Report: As of 1 July 2023–Cash on hand: $11,935.93. This value is an increase for the Society over the previous year. Expenses so far this year have been due primarily for Games entry. These expenses are within the budget.
Active members: 203. This is a slight drop from last year. With games, come members. We have several convenors retiring and therefore will not have a presence at local highland games and festivals. This will impact our membership in the future. Assistance needed in New England, Mid Atlantic, and Arizona.
Annual Dues: $25.00. Remains unchanged from previous years.
Scholarship: Balance on hand: $949.35. No scholarships are to be awarded this year as Charlie Kehm was not able to promote the Scholarship in Florida this year. The Scholarship program may “sunset” unless someone is willing to take it on.
Amazon Smile: This program has been canceled by Amazon. This year to date we received $27.67 and it has been credited to the DNA project account. Total received $154.78

Family History/Genealogy: Each month, Neil McCallum receives 3 to 4 inquiries regarding family ancestry. Most inquiries come through our website. Neil forwards many to Pete McCollum who maintains access to the Database. Many of our new members this year have come through this program.
DNA Project: Our Project is through Family Tree DNA with 311 total members. The most conclusive ancestry test (Male) is the Y Test: 196 Members. Maternal Ancestor Information: 140 total members. Family Finder tracks both sides of the family: 101 total members. Our project has teamed with the McMillian Society to collaborate on the results as it appears our clans are connected in the distant past! Tara thanked Fred for his numerous years of service to the Society. He is the past president, past vice president, past secretary/treasurer, and past convenor for many NC games. He is looking to retire and we are in need of a GMHG convenor.
Righton thanked the Society leadership.
Brown commented that the Society only survives with all of our supporters. Brown is one of the last original officers. He said 52 years ago, we were Number 21 of the Clan tents! Brown said that Don’s father Andrew (Fred’s uncle) was our Society’s founder and Righton was the first AC editor. Brown also commended Ern on his well-deserved honor.
Don said that although the current Society is only 52 years old, the Society existed before World War I. Unfortunately, 3 out of the 4 officers were killed in action in WWI so the Society went dark. Col. Malcolm (our current chief’s father) was very eager to start the Society again 52 years ago.
Travis Hawkins invited us to Scotland County Highland Games on October 7.
- Closing Remarks by Tara. We adjourned at 1:01 PM.
Clan Store: Our Society has teamed with Lands’ End Business Outfitters to provide quality apparel with our name and clan crest. The cost of adding the embroidered crest logo is only $8.50. Delivery time is approximately 2 weeks. Please find a link to the website on the sidebar to the left. A very special “Thank you” goes out to Robert & Ruth De Clute as well as Brown & Righton McCallum for their support of the Clan Store.
Purpose of our Clan Society: Clan MacCallum Malcolm has a rich history in America since its establishment by Andrew McCallum at Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in 1971. With its roots in the Carolinas, interest grew and we now have members across the country and Canada. The goal of this society is best stated within our Incorporation papers, that is:
Objectives of this nonprofit Society shall be:
a. to promote the preservation and study of Scottish history, culture and heritage;
b. the acquisition, compilation, preservation and distribution of information of historical, cultural and genealogical interest to those of the surname, MacCallum, McCallum, McCollum, Malcolm and its families, regardless of spelling;
c. to provide for the public a forum for discussion groups, lectures, musical programs, entertainment and instruction on our Scottish Cultural Heritage;
d. to cooperate with other Scottish Clan and Celtic organizations that have like interests;
e. to disseminate information of an advisory and educational nature which will be of value to its members and the general public.
